1998 | SE Alaska Engineering Project of the Year Honorable Mention
Jointly given to Ty-Matt, Inc., Ketchikan Pulp Company and R&M Engineering for the Ketchikan Pulp Company Digester Removal. R & M used finite element three dimensional modeling capabilities to provide a dynamic seismic analysis and design. This design allowed reinforcing of the 5 story, 120’ tall steel framed brick enclosed building. This reinforcement allowed removal and salvage of four 270 ton, 18’ diameter, 55’ high digesters. R&M’s timely assistance allowed salvage of the digesters prior to demolition of the 1952 vintage building.
